U-20 MYNT SET FOR GLOBAL STAGE

The United States Under-20 Men’s Youth National Team (MYNT) will kick off its preparation for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup with a pair of friendlies against Colombia on Feb. 22 and Feb. 25 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The matches will mark the first for the U-20 MYNT under head coach Mikey Varas, who was appointed to the position in December 2022.

The U-20 MYNT will face a Colombia side that is also preparing for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Indonesia from May 20-June 11.

The United States has qualified for 17 of 23 all-time U-20 World Cups, tied for second-most in the world with Argentina. The U.S. has reached the quarterfinals three times, in 1989, 1999 and 2019.

Colombia has qualified for nine U-20 World Cups, reaching the quarterfinals in 2003 and 2011.

The U-20 MYNT will open its World Cup campaign against Panama on May 22 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The U.S. will then face Ghana on May 25 in Bandung, Indonesia, before wrapping up the group stage against Tahiti on May 28 in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The top two teams from each of the six groups will advance to the knockout round of 16.
