Blast Causes Extensive Damage, Significant Injuries

A massive explosion has rocked the Chempark industrial complex in Leverkusen, Germany, injuring at least 16 people, according to officials. The blast occurred at approximately 09:40 local time (07:40 GMT) within the Currenta waste disposal facility, located north of Leverkusen's city center.
Four of the injured individuals are reported to have sustained serious injuries. The explosion's impact was felt as far away as a seismic station in Hespertal, roughly 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Leverkusen.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. The blast caused significant damage within the Chempark complex, and nearby residents reported feeling the impact of the explosion.
Bayer, one of Germany's largest chemical manufacturers, is headquartered in Leverkusen. The city, with a population of approximately 163,000, is located 20 kilometers (124 miles) north of Cologne.
