Fluminense Defeats River Plate to Win 2021 CONMEBOL Libertadores Final

Fluminense FC captured their first CONMEBOL Libertadores title in 37 years with a 3-1 victory over River Plate on Tuesday night at the Maracanã Stadium. Fluminense exploded for three first-half goals to take control of the game and held off a spirited second-half push from River Plate to clinch the victory.
Caio Paulista's right-footed shot found the back of the net in the 15th minute to give Fluminense an early lead. Yago Felipe added to the lead in the 38th minute and Luiz Henrique sealed it in the 45th minute. Despite a late consolation goal from Julián Álvarez in the 79th minute for River Plate, Fluminense held on for the 3-1 victory.
The win marks Fluminense's first CONMEBOL Libertadores title since 1984 and their third overall. It is also the first time a Brazilian club has won the tournament since 2019.
